The first question every karerista asks about a racing game is the right one: is it just random? In a lot of virtual racing, it is. A number is rolled, a winner is picked, and an animation plays out an ending that was decided before the gates opened. Studying the form in a game like that is pointless.
EZ Karera is built the other way around. Nothing picks the winner. The race is worked out, and the winner is whoever gets to the line first.
Every horse is a real set of strengths and weaknesses
Each horse in EZ Karera is born with its own hidden abilities, and it keeps them for life. You never see these numbers, just like you never see inside a real horse:
- Speed: how fast it can go flat out.
- Stamina: how long it can hold that speed, which decides the distances it likes.
- The break: how cleanly it leaves the gate.
- Temper: whether it settles and does its job, or pulls and wastes its energy early.
- Running style: a front-runner, a stalker who sits just off the pace, or a closer who comes late.
- Ground preference: some horses love firm ground, some love it soft.
Then the day itself
A horse's ability is only half the story. The same horse can win one day and run fifth the next, because the race around it changes:
- The weight it carries. Every kilo over the standard weight costs speed. Recent winners are given more weight, and apprentice jockeys are let off two kilos.
- The jockey. A better rider gets more out of the same horse.
- The ground and the weather. The weather changes through the day, and with it the track. A horse that hates soft ground can be beaten by horses it would normally leave behind.
- The distance. A sprinter who flies over 1,000 meters may have nothing left at 1,600.
- The pace. If two front-runners fight for the lead, they tire each other out and hand the race to a closer. If one front-runner gets an easy lead, it can steal the race.
- The class. Horses race in groups, and the winners of the Cups move up, so a horse that keeps winning keeps meeting better horses.
Worked out ten times every second
Once the gates open, the engine works out every horse's run in small steps, ten times every second: how hard it is pushing, how much energy it has left, where it sits in the field and whether it is getting tired. Front-runners lead and fade, closers wind up and arrive late. Nobody writes the drama in advance. It comes out of the horses.
Yes, there is racing luck
Real racing has luck in it, and so does EZ Karera. A horse can be a touch sharper or flatter than usual today. A horse can miss the break, or be bumped leaving the gate. But the luck is small, and you can see it happen on screen. It never decides who wins on its own. Over a day of races, the better horse on the day wins far more often than not.
The proof is in the results. In EZ Karera the betting favorite wins about one race in three, close to what you see at real tracks. If the races were random, the favorite would be no more likely to win than any other horse.
The history is your window
You will never see a horse's speed or stamina numbers. What you see is what a karerista at the track sees: the racing program, and for every horse its last five races plus its last five over today's distance, with the date, the group, the jockey, the weight and where it finished. All of that history was produced by the horse's real hidden abilities, honestly. That means the clues are there for anyone who studies:
- A horse that runs well over today's distance but poorly over others may be a specialist at this trip.
- A horse that fades late at 1,600 meters may be a sprinter.
- A horse that ran well carrying more weight, or in a stronger group, may be better than its finishing place says.
And the bets never touch the result
The race engine never sees the bets. It does not know which horse the crowd backed or how big the pot is. Bets decide what a winning ticket pays, never who wins. We take the same cut from the pot whatever happens, so we have no reason to want any horse to win.
In EZ Karera nothing picks the winner. The horses do, and the history tells you which ones can.
